The first Tackle the Trail 5K Run and 1 Mile Dog/Fitness Walk took place on Sunday April 18 at Central Park of Morris County. Anticipated to be an annual event, runners came from across the state and as far away as Hanover, PA. More than 225 runners and 73 walkers participated in the event ranging in age from 7 to 85. In addition to the The Park Commission and the Park Alliance sponsored the event. Results (view by age / time) were timed and trophies awarded to 72 participants.
The complex includes two lighted regulation-size in-line skating rinks, available for adult and youth leagues, open skating times and non-hockey activities. Non-hockey activities include Xtrembol, roller derby practices, power soccer, and broomball.
A fully accessible Challenger League ball field is a rubberized surface painted to represent a baseball field. Lighted for nighttime play, field activities include wheel chair baseball and softball, as well as wiffle ball and kickball.
With the help of Lakeland Cross Country and the maintenance staff at Lewis Morris County Park, a 5k cross country trail was created. The course, with its beautiful views, features soft rolling hills with a mixture of grass, gravel, and natural trail surfaces, enjoyable for runners and watchers alike.
Central Park of Morris County, dedicated in the summer of 2008, has been designed for passive and active recreation. Once part of Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital, it was purchased from the State of New Jersey. It is our first fully accessible outdoor athletic facility.
